Some days fly by. Seasons can be over before you realized what happened or what you forgot to do. We can rush through certain times of the year without fully welcoming each individual day.
Thanksgiving and Christmas are upon us. The weeks in between can be marked by busyness that takes our focus away from the people around us. We can let time fly as we decorate, cook, shop for gifts, prepare for the relatives coming to visit, and other such holiday-related tasks.
This year I don’t want to rush. I don’t want to fly. I want to slow down long enough to notice the daily joys, the little blessings God offers. I will learn to better see these gifts. My heart needs to take time to rest and be more open to the Light of His Presence.
As the holidays arrive, I also want to prepare for the new year. 2014 will be here sooner than we want to think. I’m often not “ready” for the fresh start of a new year because I have flown through the last few weeks leading up to it.
This year I’m setting aside time for planning and setting goals. The concrete kind of goals that lead to action.
How do you slow down as time flies by? Do you set goals for the new year? Feel free to share below or ask me about mine (in a couple of weeks).
Joining the Five Minute Friday community again. It has been too long! Catch up on my other FMF posts.
I have a really hard time slowly down, but try not to schedule too many weeknight events, so we can rest up for weekend activities. My only goal for the upcoming year is to finally get healthy. My niece is getting married and I want to be able to dance at her reception. Visiting from FMF =)
It’s a hard time of year to slow down. Hope you find the rest you need in the midst of the fun. Sounds like a great goal for next year! When is the wedding? May you feel like dancing the night away with your niece!
After the mad dash of christmas I love to slow down in January, it never seems long enough for me. Having goals for 2014 is a must, even if they are little ones. Mine will be the biggest I have ever attempted this will be the year I finish a novel and a picture book, I hope. Good luck with your goals Laura a new year is a fresh start me thinks.
December can be crazy. I almost wish we could spread the fun into January to start the year with a little excitement, too. 🙂 Goals are good – I’m looking forward to making some plans! Can’t wait to hear about your projects and progress in 2014. Keep me posted!
Great reminder.
Thanks for reading, Eva!
